I attended a St. John Ambulance Emergency First Aid for Appointed Persons course today in Runcorn. This meant no usual lunchtime run around one of the more familiar routes.
However, due to the fact that we only had 30 minutes for lunch instead of the allowed 1 hour, the course finished at 3:28pm instead of 4:00pm! So, I headed off home and decided to go for a longer run around my local area.
The 9.52km Sandymoor, Halton Moss, and Moore Clockwise Loop is a difficult route. The first 6.5km are a gradual but steady incline virtually all the way to Moore - I definitely felt it. Afterwards there is a good downhill part for about 1.5km, followed by a gradual downhill until the finish. However, after working hard going uphill for the first part, there were strong winds heading towards me on the downhill part - oh well! The weather was very warm and sunny too which made the already tough run even that more difficult.
I was completely exhausted at the end of the run which is quiet unusual (perhaps done too much lately) and I was visually sweating from head to foot. It was a hard run and to be honest, I was glad when it was over.
